Current Classes
As of September 2006, the only classes that are being held are a
beginners/intermediate class at Libertyville High School. This class is being held on Monday and
Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00. Please click on this link for more information

Introduction to Aikido
Prerequisite: None
Term: 8 Weeks
Requirements: Loose clothing that covers the knees and elbows.
Description:
This course is designed for those with no aikido experience and the desire to
try something new. The fundamental philosophical and technical principles of
aikido will be discussed. Instruction will cover stretching, proper falling
and basic defensive techniques.
Beginning Aikido
Prerequisite: None (Introduction to Aikido is recommended but not required.)
Term: Ongoing
Requirements: A white practice uniform and AAA membership is required.
Description:
An introduction to the fundamental principles of aikido, this course will
build the necessary foundation for continued study. Focus will be placed on
basic falling skills, body movement, posture, striking methods, defensive
theory and the development of basic technique. Aikido philosophy and dojo
etiquette will be covered as well. This class covers the test requirements
for 7th through 4th kyu.
Intermediate Aikido
Prerequisite: Beginning Aikido or instructor's permission.
Term: Ongoing
Requirements: Jo, bokken and tanto are required.
Description:
A continuation of the principles learned in Beginning Aikido, this class
expands to incorporate intermediate level technique. Emphasis will be placed
on advanced falling skills, dynamic movement, seated techniques, the
development of a strong center and an introduction to the traditional weapons
(sword, staff and knife) used in aikido training. This class covers the test
requirements for 4th through 2nd kyu.
Advanced Aikido
Prerequisite: Intermediate Aikido or instructor's permission.

Requirements: Jo, bokken and tanto are required.
Description:
Building on prior
experience this class explores advanced aikido principles through the
practice of jiyu waza (free techniques), weapon disarmament's, paired weapons
sets and randori (multiple attackers). Changing technique (henka waza) and
reversals (kaeshi waza) are also covered. This class covers the test
requirements of 1st kyu through Shodan and beyond.

Weapons
Prerequisite: None
Term: Ongoing
Requirements: Jo, bokken and tanto are required.
Description : Basic
instruction in the correct use of each traditional weapon (sword, 4' staff
and knife) used in aikido training. Etiquette, proper posture and correct
striking/blocking methodology is covered.
Aikido with Weapons
Prerequisite: Introduction to Weapons or instructor's permission. (Aikido experience would be very
helpful but is not required.)
Term: Ongoing
Requirements: Jo, bokken, tanto and shinai are required.
Description:
This class explores aikido theory through the use of traditional weapons.
Focus is placed on suburi, kata, paired weapons sets and weapon
disarmament's.
Misogi
Prerequisite: None
Term: Ongoing
Requirements: Loose clothing that covers the knees and elbows.
Description:
A set of breathing exercises practiced to promote internal health,
develop internal energy (ki) and purify the spirit. Misogi practice is an
excellent addition to any training regimen for total health.
